International Deaf Emergency (“IDE,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Donations: Name, email address, billing information. Payment processing is handled by Stripe — we never store your full card number.
  • Contact form: Name, email, and message content.
  • Newsletter signup: Email address only.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics: We use PostHog to understand how visitors use the site. Data is anonymized and does not include personally identifiable information unless you interact with a form.
  • Server logs: Standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited. Retained for up to 30 days.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Process and acknowledge donations, including issuing tax receipts.
  • Respond to contact form inquiries.
  • Send newsletters and field updates (only if you subscribed).
  • Improve our website and communications.
  • Comply with legal obligations as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Stripe: For secure payment processing. Governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • AWS (Amazon Web Services): For email delivery via SES. Emails are transmitted securely.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect the rights of IDE, our donors, or the public.

4. Data Retention

  • Donation records are retained for 7 years as required for tax compliance.
  • Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact form submissions are retained for 12 months.
  • Analytics data is retained per PostHog's default retention policy.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by replying with “unsubscribe.”

6. Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission. Payments are processed by Stripe using PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure. We do not store payment card information on our servers.

7. Cookies

We use minimal cookies for analytics (PostHog). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings without affecting core site functionality.

8. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
