Privacy Policy

International Deaf Emergency (“IDE,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Donations: Name, email address, billing information. Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We never store your full card number.
  • Contact form: Name, email, and message content.
  • Newsletter signup: Email address only.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics (PostHog): We use PostHog to understand how visitors use the site: pages viewed, clicks, and when you leave a page. PostHog stores a random visitor identifier in a first-party cookie and in your browser's local storage so that repeat visits can be counted. This identifier is pseudonymous, not anonymous. We do not send PostHog your name or email; if you donate, the amount, fund and frequency are recorded against this identifier. Session recording is switched off.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics 4): We use Google Analytics to measure visits and whether a donation, contact message, or newsletter signup was completed. Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_<id>) holding a random client identifier. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
  • Error reporting (Sentry): When a page fails with an error, Sentry receives the error details and a short replay of that page with all text masked and all media blocked. Sessions without an error are not recorded. Sentry also receives performance timings, the page address, and your browser type for a sample of page loads.
  • Performance measurement (Vercel Speed Insights): Our host, Vercel, receives page-load performance measurements and the page address. It sets no cookies.
  • Server logs: Standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited. Retained for up to 30 days.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Process and acknowledge donations, including issuing tax receipts.
  • Respond to contact form inquiries.
  • Send newsletters and field updates (only if you subscribed).
  • Improve our website and communications.
  • Comply with legal obligations as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Stripe: For secure payment processing. Governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • AWS (Amazon Web Services): For email delivery via SES. Emails are transmitted securely.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: A bot check on the contact form. When you use the form, Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser signals to tell people from scripts; no puzzle and no audio is involved. Governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • PostHog and Google: Website analytics, as described in section 1. Like any request your browser makes, these requests reach the provider with your IP address. Governed by PostHog's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Sentry: Error reports and performance samples, as described in section 1.
  • Vercel: Hosts the site and receives page-performance measurements, as described in section 1.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect the rights of IDE, our donors, or the public.

4. Data Retention

  • Donation records are retained for 7 years as required for tax compliance.
  • Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact form submissions are retained for 12 months.
  • Analytics data is retained per the default retention policies of PostHog and Google Analytics.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by replying with “unsubscribe.”

6. Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission. Payments are processed by Stripe using PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure. We do not store payment card information on our servers.

7. Cookies

We use first-party analytics cookies and local storage from PostHog and Google Analytics, described in section 1. They are set when a page loads; the site does not currently ask for consent first. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings, or use a content blocker, without affecting core site functionality.

8. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
